Documentation and artwork

Build or preview the site without the ARM toolchain:

uv sync --frozen --only-group docs
uv run --no-sync mkdocs serve
uv run --no-sync mkdocs build --strict

The Documentation workflow builds every change and deploys main through GitHub Actions to GitHub Pages. Pull requests build without deployment rights. The source repository, published release assets and Pages site are public.

Page titles and descriptions belong in Markdown front matter. Repository-file references are resolved by tools/docs_hooks.py; internal documentation links remain ordinary Markdown. The site uses local assets and system fonts.

Editable visual sources live in assets/design/feuristic.sketch. Open the named artboards in Sketch to edit text, colors, device shapes and diagrams. Exports under docs/assets/ are used by the README and documentation. The device drawing is an illustration of Safe 3 geometry, not a product photo. Screens are recorded from the firmware emulator using disposable identities.

To regenerate the artwork with Sketch installed, run the command documented in the artwork directory. Preserve the exported artboard names so existing links continue to work.

Languages

English is the default language at the site root. French pages are built under /fr/, with a language switcher that keeps the current page. The primary README is English. Add translations as page.fr.md beside page.md; use ordinary page.md links so the language plugin resolves the correct destination. Shared assets stay unsuffixed; overview.fr.svg localizes the French banner.

Use the same commands, limits and security conditions in each translation. Update both when behavior changes. Technical pages without a French translation fall back to English and display a notice. Localized titles/descriptions belong in each file’s front matter; navigation labels live in mkdocs.yml. The original design specification is retained in French and explicitly labelled. The strict build checks both languages. Verify language switching, canonical URLs, alternate-language links and search before merging documentation changes.

Search engines

Every page needs a title and a description of at most 160 characters in its front matter. Fallback copies of untranslated pages point their canonical URL to the page in its content language and stay out of the sitemap and hreflang links. Add robots: noindex, follow to pages that should not appear in search results, such as acceptance procedures not yet executed; remove it once results are recorded. Sitemap dates come from the last commit of each page.

After each deployment, the Documentation workflow submits recently modified pages to IndexNow (Bing and other engines). Run the workflow manually to submit every page. social.png and social.fr.png are the link previews.
